- This is the 1.1 version of cdisk. I would like to thank all
- of the people who found that 1.0 did not work with hard disks.
- This has been corrected with this version. It was a quick fix
- and will be expanded in the future. In the 2.0 issue I will
- distinguish between hard disks and floppies. This version
- assumes that you have 2 (or 1) diskette(s) drive and one or more
- hard disk drives. It makes no attempt to identify ram disks.
- The next version will try to keep track of what drives are where
- and of what type.
- Please remember that cdisk is still in beta test. The next
- version may correct any errors that you find. If you have a
- problem to report please leave a message at PC-ROCKLAND at
- (914) 353-2176.
- A final version will be out as soon as 2.0 is finished and
- evaluated. Thanks for the help.

- CLASER - Hewlett-Packard LaserJet Control
- CLASER is a memory resident replacement for the DOS
- mode command, with pop up menus to control access to
- all of the LaserJet's potential. One important feature
- of CLASER is its ability to emulate an EPSON printer
- which allows most popular Word Processors and Graphics
- Packages to work immediately exactly as they did on the
- Epson. CLASER supports most Font cartridges and allows
- for menu driven font selection or use of simple imbedded
- codes that can be placed in text to change fonts.
- CLASER does Lotus graphics better than the Lotus LaserJet
- drivers. CLASER also does graphics screen dumps.
- All this for $74.95. Checks should be sent to:

- CBOOT is a little program I wrote which is a functional
- replacement for Ctrl-Alt-Del. It allows you to boot out
- of situations without using Ctrl-Alt-Del. It also
- will let you Ctrl-Break out of programs where the
- break key has been disabled. I wrote it because I
- write alot of Assembly Language Code and when you make
- a mistake, the system usually hangs up. CBOOT almost
- always gets me out without resorting to the red switch.
- It is my most popular utility, simple but functional,
- and a bargain at $5.00 plus $5.00 for copying and
- shipping. (CBOOT users, I have added a new exit method
- by way of critical error handlers. You will not see
- version 3.0 on the BBS's). Send $10.00 to me at:

- all aspects of printer and port control. From
- within any program you can:
- Swap LPT1 and LPT2
- Redirect printer output to Serial Port(s)
- Initialize Baud rate, Parity and/or stop bits
- in any combination from a menu
- Slow down printing to prevent overflow on
- older printers
- plus another $5.00 to pay for the disk
- and postage. Mail it now to:

- The new version of FMAC comes out in September
- From the response I got, I would guess that half
- a million people download FMAC.COM to view the
- MAC graphics nudes. You could make some bucks

- view a PIC. Drop me a line at:

- CDISK Disk Access Monitor
- How to use CDISK help
- Every screen In CDISK has a corresponding
- HELP screen associated with it. The F1
- function key always gives you a HELP
- screen with information about the current
- menu screen. When the HELP screen pops up
- you can get the HELP index by pressing the
- Home key. PgUp and PgDn keys will move you
- from one HELP screen to the next. Esc
- will always allow you to move to the
- previous menu.
-
- Help 3 - Write Protecting Drives
- CDISK can intercept any attempt to write
- to a PHYSICAL floppy or hard disk drive
- and fake the operating system into act-
- ing as though the diskette has a write
- protect tab on it. This works equally as
- well for hard disks. CDISK cannot write
- protect most ram disks or virtual disks.
- CDISK acts at a very low (BIOS) level so
- it does not even try to look at device
- drivers or virtual hard disk volumes. If
- you write protect a hard disk, you do it
- to the whole disk, not just a volume.
-
- Help 4 - Opening Drive Doors
- Of course, you can't open the drive door
- through software, but what you can do is
- make the disk read procedures think that
- the door is open by intercepting reads
- and writes to the disk drives. In this
- way it possible to make it look like the
- hard disk has a door that can be opened.
- This could protect your hard disk from
- uncontrolled programs which may damage
- diskette data. F4 and F5 open and close
- the disk drive door, and F6 will tell the
- current status of disk drives.
-
- Help 5 - Displaying Drive Status
- Pressing F6 from the Main Menu displays
- a drive status screen showing each drive
- as either being Normal, Protected or
- Open. The screen does not indicate that
- it can tell when a drive door is open or
- if a disk is write protected, rather it
- is showing that you have opened the door
- or protected a disk through CDISK.
- It is possible to reset all of the
- options set by CDISK by pressing the
- F10 key while at this screen
-
- Help 6 - Drive Statistics
- CDISK not only imitates an open drive door
- or a write protect tab, but also keeps a
- tally of drive activity by the type of disk
- access. CDISK also keeps a count of disk
- errors and the time it takes to access the
- disks. Time is displayed in 1/1000's of a
- second. Since the PC keeps track of time in
- in units of about .05 seconds, the timing
- is a little crude. The more accesses,
- however, the more accurate the timing will be.
- If timeouts occur, the timing may overflow
- and show a zero for speed.
-
- Help 7 - Starting up CDISK
- CDISK is started from the DOS command line
- by typing CDISK. CDISK will check to see
- if it is already resident and inform you
- so. If you are not a registered user you
- must agree to the CDISK terms before CDISK
- will make itself resident. Registered
- users receive a version which can be
- started from a batch file without questions
- Registered users also can set disk status
- through parameters on the command line.
